IN
DEPTH EXPERIENCE
Norman
started his career as a student apprentice with a national electrical
contractor, W H Smith of Manchester, part of Staveley Industries
and, following completion of his training, he spent his two years
national service commitment as a staff lecturer at the REME College
of Electronics with the rank of Captain.
He
then moved to London with Balfour Kilpatrick as Design Engineer,
and subsequently as Deputy Branch Manager, over a period of five
years controlling major power station, commercial and hospital contracts.
He later joined Costain as Principal Electrical Engineer in their
Group Architects' Department working on design and management of
design-build commercial and industrial contracts in the UK and Western
Europe.
Following
relocation in Bristol he joined Drake and Scull as Project Manager
and was involved in commercial and industrial work including a major
tobacco factory.
Norman
also gained experience both from Bristol as Overseas Contract Manager
involved with major port and hotel projects and, as an ex-patriot,
in the Middle East, working for the Architects' Collaborative of
Cambridge Massachusetts as Electrical Engineer on a University Project
and factory. Subsequently he was a QA Consultant to the American
Corps of Engineers (with civilian rank equivalent to major) on the
`fast track' construction of a major military airbase.
On
returning to Bristol, he was self-employed for eight years undertaking
design work for consulting engineering practices including Hoare
Lea and Partners, King Cathery, MRM, Parsons Brown, SSC and Torpy
& Partners covering a wide variety of building types both in
the UK and overseas.
Norman

in 1991 whilst working as Senior Building Services Engineer, and
from this friendship the DAVIES ASPIN PARTNERSHIP was launched.
